Title 1 Programs can help:

* Children do better in school and feel better about themselves

* Teachers understand the needs and concerns of students and parents

*Parents understand their child and be more involved in the child’s education

What is a Title 1 School?

* Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs.  These dollars are used for…

-Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards.

-Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies

-Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities

-Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers

* Being a Title I school also means family engagement and parents’ rights.

Title 1 Funds:

* Any Local Educational Agency ( School District) with a Title I Allocation exceeding $500,000 is required by law to set aside 1% of it’s Title I allocation for parental involvement.

* Of that 1%, 10% may be reserved at the school district for system-wide initiatives related to family engagement.  The remaining 90% must be allocated to all Title I schools in the district.  Therefore each Title I school receives its portion of the 90% to implement school-level family engagement.

* You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in how this money is spent.

Getting Ready for the 2026- 2027 School Year

Why Family Input Matters

  • Parents work more closely with their children than other adults can

  • Parents provide critical input that only they can bring: They know their child better than anyone else.

  • Involved parents not only help their child, but all children in the school

  • Parents are the only adults in the educational process who have been and will continue to be deeply involved throughout the child’s school career.

  • While parents may not be educators themselves, they bring their years of experience in other professions and aspect of life to the process.

Tools Toward Student Achievement

  • Family Engagement Budget

  • School-Parent Compact

  • Family Engagement Policy

  • Building Staff Capacity

  • School Improvement Plan

Family Engagement Budget

Parents of children receiving Title I services shall be involved in the decisions regarding how reserved funds are allotted for family engagement activities. 2026-2027 estimated budget = $4000

School - Parent Compact

An agreement between parents, students and teachers that explain how a partnership will be formed to make sure all students get the support they need to reach and exceed grade level standards.

Family Engagement PolicyA school Family Engagement Policy is a written policy that contains information related to how the school is expected to interact with parents and specific parent activities that will be held by the school.

School Improvement Plan

A School Improvement Plan is intended to improve the educational programs in a school. The primary goal is to assist all students in meeting and exceeding standards on state curriculum.

Building Staff CapacityWhat topics and ways do you feel the schools could go about educating their entire staff in the value of family contributions, how to work with families as equal partners, implement and coordinate family programs, and build ties between parents/families and the school ?
